Millions of blogs, an amazing variety of topics - loud, raucous audiences, small, intimate gatherings, scribbles on a passing breeze, hope that someone - anyone - will stop and read. With your help, we aim to find them all. Well, at least some. Millions of blogs, an amazing variety of topics - loud, raucous audiences, small, intimate gatherings, scribbles on a passing breeze, hope that someone - anyone - will stop and read. With your help, we aim to find them all. Well, at least some. As to why… curiosity, I guess. Or nosiness, whichever word works best for you. Have you ever just wandered the wilds of Blogger, clicking the “next blog” link at the top of whichever blogspot page you are on? I have, and found it an interesting experience, although sometimes you reach a roadblock of altered or deserted pages. But that’s okay - you just wait for a different day and then start all over again. Every so often, usually as the result of some sort of upheaval or “blogwar”, I’ll discover wonderful new writers, artists, photographers and those who are mainly commenters or lurkers (like me), and I’ll realize how much I have been missing out on by not branching out more often beyond my normal blog haunts. In addition, some form of the question “Where are all the _______ at?” arises from time to time when it occurs to someone that, hey, we don’t hear too much about (women, people of color, non-US, this or that) bloggers… so do they even exist? Well, yes… they do. Sometimes on the edges, sometimes in total obscurity, but yes… they are out there. One just has to look. So, we will. In the process, we’ll be making a blogroll of sorts, with a few differences from the norm. Each blog name you click on, on the right hand side, will lead not to the blog itself, but to a (completely subjective) review of the blog, so that you’ll have a sort of idea of types of content, comment area interaction, sample posts and so on before clicking through to the blog itself. We’ll also be accepting guest reviews so that not only one or two people’s biases are represented. I hope that we can build a wide spectrum of blogs and views, bringing attention to people and encourage cross connectivity between different factions of the blogoshere. Or maybe we can just have fun reading blogs… that works too. In the left hand column, we’ll also be posting about various resources and cool informational sites we come across, as there are a huge number of those as well. I hope you’ll join in, leave suggestions in comments or, if you’ve visited a blog we decide to review, let us know what you think of it. Or submit your own guest review, once you’ve seen how it should be formatted. I’ll probably be revising this post from time to time, as it will function as a sort of FAQ and really should be clearer and probably shorter and more focused. To suggest a site or submit a review (which we will then put in this space under your name, nickname or pseudonym) you can leave a comment, email me at nanette at humanbeams dot com or use the contact form, making sure to put a relevant title in the “subject” area.
